A tragic road accident in the Ishwarganj Upazila of Mymensingh has claimed the life of a 21-year-old motorcyclist. The incident, involving a head-on collision between a microbus and a motorcycle, occurred on Saturday (30 May) at approximately 12:00 pm on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj Highway in the Charhosseinpur area.
The deceased has been identified as Mahir, a 21-year-old resident of the region. He was the son of Abdul Kaiyum, originally from the Musulli area of Nandail Upazila. However, Mahir had been residing with his parents at Kalibari Road in Duttapara village, located within the Ishwarganj municipal town. His father, Abdul Kaiyum Renu, is a well-known local trader who operates a grocery shop in the Ishwarganj municipal market.
According to local sources, the events leading up to the accident began on Saturday morning when Mahir woke up and prepared to leave the house on his motorcycle. Family members noted that his maternal grandmother, Helena Akhter, had requested him to eat a breakfast of flatbread (roti) and meat before departing. Mahir declined to eat immediately, stating that he would return shortly to have his meal, and subsequently left the residence on his vehicle.
Witness reports indicate that Mahir was riding his motorcycle at a high speed while travelling through various parts of the town. At around 12:00 pm, whilst navigating the Charhosseinpur section of the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj Highway under Ishwarganj Upazila, his motorcycle collided violently with an oncoming microbus.
The impact of the collision threw Mahir off his motorcycle, causing him to land heavily on the tarmac and sustain critical injuries. Local residents and bystanders rushed to the scene immediately following the impact to rescue the severely injured youth. He was promptly transported to the Ishwarganj Upazila Health Complex for emergency medical attention. Upon arrival, the duty doctor examined Mahir and officially declared him dead.
Following the announcement of the fatality, the local police department was notified. Sub-Inspector (SI) Wajed Ali of the Ishwarganj Police Station arrived to oversee the formal procedures. He confirmed that the police recovered the body and successfully conducted the inquest report (Surathal).
Law enforcement officials completed all necessary legal administrative formalities regarding the road traffic accident. Sub-Inspector Wajed Ali stated that because the family of the deceased raised no objections or formal complaints regarding the nature of the incident, the police authorities refrained from conducting an autopsy. Consequently, the body of the deceased was officially handed over to his relatives for funeral arrangements and burial.
