In a shocking case from Gopalganj Sadar, a 25-year-old mother, Setu Begum, has been accused of murdering her three-year-old daughter amid an extramarital affair. The child’s body was recovered twenty days after the tragic incident, prompting police to detain the mother.

The discovery occurred on Saturday, 7 February, when police from Gopalganj Sadar recovered the toddler Faria’s body from her paternal home in Gobra Nilarmath. Initial investigations indicate that the child was strangled with a scarf on 17 January, allegedly with the assistance of Setu Begum’s lover.

According to police and family sources, Setu Begum had been in contact with Miraj Molla, a resident of Bordaihat village under Sadarpur police station in Faridpur, through the social media platform TikTok for the past six months. The relationship reportedly turned romantic, and tensions with her husband appear to have escalated into a fatal act of vengeance.

On the evening of 17 January, Setu Begum allegedly strangled her daughter with a scarf, concealing the body in a water tank within the house. Following the act, she absconded with her lover, Rubel Sheikh, leaving the family unaware of the child’s fate. After nineteen days, the lover abandoned her, prompting Setu Begum to return to her parental home. Upon questioning by her family, she confessed to the murder and disclosed the location of her daughter’s body. Family members immediately handed her over to the Gopalganj Sadar police, who conducted the recovery operation.

The police have confirmed that the child’s body was transported to the 250-bed Gopalganj General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The authorities are currently pursuing legal proceedings against Setu Begum.
