22 Days Without Power at Madrasa

Students Face Severe Disruption in Faridpur

A total of around 300 students at Karir Hat Dakhil Madrasa in Vashanchor Union under Sadarpur Upazila of Faridpur are enduring serious hardship as the institution has remained without electricity for the past 22 days. The prolonged power outage has severely disrupted teaching activities, administrative work, and the daily academic routine of both students and staff.

According to the madrasa authorities, the electricity supply line was originally routed through the residence of a local resident, Nura Sheikh. About three weeks ago, the power line reportedly burned out, after which efforts were made to restore the connection. However, the family residing on the premises allegedly refused permission for the line to be reinstalled through their property, leaving the institution completely without electricity.

As a result, classrooms are operating under extremely difficult conditions, particularly during the ongoing hot weather. Teachers report that conducting lessons in such heat has become increasingly challenging, while students are struggling to concentrate in the absence of fans, lighting, and other basic electrical facilities. Office operations and record-keeping have also been significantly affected.

Local residents have expressed concern over the situation, describing it as unfortunate that an educational institution serving hundreds of students has been left in darkness for such an extended period. They have urged the authorities to intervene swiftly and restore electricity to ensure the continuation of academic activities.

The madrasa principal, ABM Raisuddin, stated that repeated attempts had been made to resolve the issue through communication with relevant parties. Despite these efforts, the electricity connection has not yet been restored. He emphasised that approximately 300 students are directly affected and that teaching has become extremely difficult under the prevailing conditions. He has called for urgent intervention from the authorities concerned to resolve the crisis.

Officials from the local Rural Electricity Association noted that after the original connection was damaged, a new line needed to be installed through the same property. However, the landowners have consistently refused permission for the line to pass through their premises. Authorities said they are continuing discussions with local stakeholders in the hope of reaching a quick resolution.

The Upazila Secondary Education Officer confirmed awareness of the issue and said coordination with the electricity authorities is ongoing to restore power supply as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the Upazila Executive Officer assured that necessary steps would be taken after consultation with all relevant parties.

Key Stakeholders Overview

Local Resident (Nura Sheikh’s family) Property owner Allegedly refusing overhead line access
Rural Electricity Association Power supply authority Attempting negotiation for reconnection
Education Office Supervisory authority Coordinating solution efforts

Both guardians and institutional representatives have urged immediate administrative action to ensure that normal educational activities resume without further delay.
