402 Arrested in 24-Hour Dhaka Police Crackdown

A total of 402 people have been arrested during routine operations conducted by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) across the capital over the past 24 hours. Police also filed 50 cases during the same period, according to a DMP statement issued on Saturday (3 October).

The information was disclosed in a statement sent by Mohammad Akhtar Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division.

The arrests were made through operations conducted by different police divisions and the Detective Branch (DB) in various parts of Dhaka. The Mirpur division recorded the highest number of arrests, with 105 people taken into custody.

The Motijheel division made 61 arrests, while 56 people were arrested by police in the Tejgaon division. The Wari division accounted for 45 arrests, followed by Lalbagh with 42 and Uttara with 38.

Police in the Ramna division arrested 30 people, while 23 were arrested in the Gulshan division. The Detective Branch reported two arrests.

During the operations, police recovered a foreign-made revolver and five rounds of ammunition. Officers also seized seven machetes, four ramdas and one pair of pliers.

The raids also resulted in the recovery of a significant quantity of suspected illicit drugs. Police seized 8,996 yaba tablets, 35 grams of cannabis and five cans of beer. Three mobile phones and a battery-powered auto-rickshaw were also recovered during the operations.

According to the DMP, the operations were carried out in different police station areas of the capital as part of its regular law-enforcement activities. The raids focused on suspected criminal activity and the recovery of weapons, drugs and other materials considered relevant to the cases.

The distribution of arrests across the city indicates that the operations were conducted in multiple areas rather than being confined to a particular part of Dhaka. Police divisions covering residential, commercial and densely populated areas were all involved in the drive.

The DMP said legal proceedings against those arrested are currently under way. However, the statement did not provide individual details of the allegations against each detainee or specify which recovered items were linked to particular suspects.

The cases will now proceed according to the relevant legal procedures, with further details expected to emerge through the investigation and subsequent court proceedings.
