Seamless Travel on Jatrabari-Gulistan Flyover with bKash RFID Toll Payment

Commuters can now cross the Jatrabari-Gulistan Flyover in Dhaka in an instant, using bKash RFID-based toll payment, applicable for buses, private cars, motorcycles, and all other vehicles. From registration to payment, the solution has simplified daily travel for citizens.

Previously, the toll plazas on this flyover were synonymous with long queues, coin-change hassles, and continuous honking. The introduction of RFID technology has eliminated these obstacles, enabling seamless, uninterrupted travel. Commuters, students, and emergency services now save significant time, while the system also builds confidence in the transport network.

The RFID system, implemented by bKash, allows vehicles equipped with RFID stickers on their windshields to automatically scan at toll points, bypassing the need to stop. Toll collection occurs automatically from the user’s bKash or bank account, making the process entirely contactless and efficient.

Transportation experts note that manual toll collection allows only 300–400 vehicles per hour, whereas automated RFID collection can handle four times that volume, reducing congestion and optimising the capacity of both the flyover and connecting roads.

Regular commuters on the flyover have already registered and received their RFID stickers, paying tolls seamlessly via bKash. Drivers and vehicle owners have praised the system:

  • Niyamat, a bus driver on the Dhaka–Narayanganj route, called the digital toll system a “VIP facility,” explaining:
“Earlier we had to wait in line and pay cash at the toll plaza. Now, bKash deducts the toll automatically, and we pass through without stopping. It feels like VIP treatment.”
  • Kabir Ahmed, a private car owner, highlighted the advantage of 24/7 hassle-free access, and urged digitalisation of all toll collections nationwide.
  • Md. Manik, a daily commuter from Narayanganj, said:
“No more trouble with coins or cash. Everything is done through bKash, which makes daily commuting far easier.”

bKash RFID also caters to motorcycle riders. Users can register via the bKash app to receive a dedicated RFID sticker for their bike, allowing smooth scanning and payment at the toll.

  • Ahmed Zayan, a frequent flyover commuter, stated:
“I travel this flyover daily. Standing in long lines and paying toll with coins was inconvenient. Now I scan and pay directly via bKash—it’s extremely convenient.”

Md. Naif Uddin Khan, Head of Operations at Orion Infrastructure Limited, emphasised:
“The use of RFID has reduced queues and increased speed. Automatic toll collection benefits commuters and simplifies toll management simultaneously.”

The RFID system represents a significant step toward a modern, cashless, and efficient transport infrastructure, making daily commuting easier, faster, and safer for all road users.
