The legendary Malayalam actor Mohanlal is set to receive India’s highest cinematic honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for 2023. The announcement was made on Saturday by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India.
Since the news broke, the veteran actor has been flooded with congratulations from fans, colleagues, and the film fraternity. Among the well-wishers is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who personally extended his felicitations.
On Saturday afternoon, Modi shared an old photograph of himself with Mohanlal on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by a warm message:“Mohanlal is a versatile talent whose acting has captivated audiences for decades. His exceptional performances are not limited to Malayalam cinema; he has also impressed in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films.
He has a deep love for the culture of Kerala, which is reflected in his diverse body of work. His acting talent is truly inspiring.”
Deeply moved by the Prime Minister’s message, Mohanlal responded with gratitude in a post of his own: “I am truly honoured to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Receiving such a warm message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi fills me with gratitude. I am forever thankful to all those who have supported and loved me throughout my long acting career.”
Mohanlal has acted in nearly 400 films over a career spanning more than four decades. His mastery of the craft has earned him recognition as one of India’s finest actors.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award stands as a remarkable tribute to his long and illustrious career, celebrating his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema.
