Seven Labourers Burned in Mohakhali Petrol Pump Explosion

Seven labourers sustained serious burn injuries today in a gas explosion while cleaning the oil tank of a petrol pump in Mohakhali, Dhaka, police and hospital sources reported.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:10 pm, according to local authorities.

The victims were promptly rescued and transported to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) for treatment around 2:00 pm, confirmed Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at NIBPS.

“Two of the burn victims are in critical condition, having sustained burns over 32 to 35 percent of their bodies,” Dr. Rahman said.

Jahangir Alam, brother of victim Alamgir Hossain, stated that all seven were employed as labourers by the same company.

He added that the injuries occurred while they were cleaning the petrol pump’s oil tank under the jurisdiction of Gulshan Police Station around noon.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion, and hospital staff are providing intensive care to the critically injured victims.
