Oslo, Norway: Norway’s government announced on Tuesday that Russia violated Norwegian airspace three times this year, describing the incidents as “not acceptable.”
Details of the Violations:
| Date | Aircraft Type | Duration in Norwegian Airspace |
| 25 April | SU-24 fighter jet | 4 minutes |
| 24 July | L410 Turbolet transport aircraft | 3 minutes |
| 18 August | SU-33 fighter jet | 1 minute |
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store commented on the incidents: “Russia has violated Norwegian airspace on three occasions this spring and summer. We cannot determine whether this was done intentionally or due to navigation errors. Regardless of the cause, this is not acceptable.”
He further noted that while these events are smaller in scale compared to airspace violations against Estonia, Poland, and Romania—both in terms of location and duration—Norway treats them very seriously.
As a member of NATO, Norway plays a strategic role in the alliance’s northern defence operations. The country shares a maritime border and a 198-kilometre (132-mile) land border with Russia, often being described as the “eyes and ears” of the transatlantic defence alliance in the far north.
The Norwegian government’s statement underscores the ongoing tensions in the High North, highlighting the sensitivity of airspace incursions and the importance of monitoring military movements along its borders.
