Police on High Alert to Prevent Disturbances at Puja Pandals: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has stated that the police are maintaining heightened vigilance to prevent any disturbances around Puja pandals during the Durga Puja celebrations.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Police Headquarters on Tuesday, he emphasised that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that no unstable or unsafe situations arise at the pandals.

From 1 September to 29 September, a total of 49 isolated incidents occurred nationwide in relation to Durga Puja. Out of these:

Detail Number
Cases filed 15
Arrests made 19
Major disruptions None

The IGP noted that none of these incidents caused significant disruption and that all were resolved peacefully.

IGP Baharul Alam also warned of attempts to destabilise the environment to question the upcoming national election. He said: “There are efforts to create unrest in society to cast doubts on the electoral process. To prevent this, police remain on the highest state of alert.”

He further stated that investigations are ongoing, and if any innocent person is wrongfully implicated with police involvement, strict action will be taken.

During the election period, approximately 250,000 police personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order. Training for these personnel has already begun and is scheduled to be completed by 15 January.

The IGP’s announcement reflects a proactive approach to ensure both festive security during Durga Puja and safeguarding the electoral process, highlighting the dual responsibilities of the police during this period.
