Two senior leaders of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) have resigned from the Kushtia district committee, officials and local sources confirmed. The leaders are Md. Ebadat Ali and Shariful Islam Shabuj.
On Wednesday night, 1 October, both leaders submitted formal applications through the NCP Kushtia district WhatsApp group, requesting release from their organisational responsibilities and resigning from their posts.
The resigning leaders hold the following positions:
| Name | Position in NCP Kushtia District Committee |
| Md. Ebadat Ali | 1st Joint Coordinator |
| Shariful Islam Shabuj | 2nd Member |
Md. Ebadat Ali, in his resignation letter, stated: “I was actively involved as a dedicated supporter in the July 2024 movement. Following the people’s uprising, I began working as a representative in Kushtia Sadar under the non-political organisation, the National Citizens’ Committee. Later, when the National Citizens’ Party was formed, I was appointed 1st Joint Coordinator of Kushtia district, for which I am grateful to the NCP authorities.
However, due to family responsibilities and age, I am now unable to fulfil the duties entrusted to me. Nevertheless, my moral support remains with those who continue to strive for a democratic state free from inequality, fascism, and domination.”
Shariful Islam Shabuj expressed his reasons as follows: “From the beginning, I was actively involved in NCP’s activities, believing that the party would uphold the values of the July movement. Unfortunately, the party has lost its direction. Leadership decisions and activities have fostered compromise and opportunism, contrary to the movement’s ideals.
My political stance is clear: I cannot follow any party or leadership while abandoning the spirit of the movement. Therefore, I formally resign from all activities and membership of the National Citizens’ Party with immediate effect.”
Both leaders told the media: “Due to irregularities in party activities, actions contrary to the spirit of the July revolution, and personal reasons, we are relinquishing all responsibilities and involvement in the NCP. We will discuss with central leaders in the future regarding our continued association with the party.”
