The Shaheed Farhad Hossain Hall of Chittagong University (CU) has revealed evidence of drug use in three of its rooms, according to the hall administration and the proctorial body.
On Thursday, October 23, at 5:30 PM, a raid was conducted in which a large quantity of cannabis, alcohol, whiskey, and cigarette remains were seized, the hall administration reported.
According to the hall administration, these rooms had been used for drug consumption for a long time, evading the authorities’ notice. Among them, Room 108 in C-Block, allocated for the hall council, was being occupied illegally by five students. During the raid, bottles of alcohol and whiskey, cannabis, and a significant number of cigarette remnants were recovered from the room.
In Room 102 of the same block, two students were caught red-handed consuming drugs. Various drugs, including alcohol and cannabis, were also found in the room. Additionally, Room 104 was found with evidence of drug use, where four students were residing.
The hall principal, Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan, said, “After a conflict between university students and locals, some students came to me as they had no place to stay. I temporarily allowed them to stay in a room allocated for the hall council. However, they did not leave after the allotted time and even tore the notice. This afternoon, during the recovery of these rooms, I personally saw evidence of various drugs.”
Assistant Proctor of the University, Professor Dr. Qurban Ali, stated, “At the request of the hall provost, we conducted the raid. Evidence of various types of drugs was found. The concerned students have been instructed to vacate the rooms.”
