A Timeless Tribute to Abul Omra Muhammad Fakhruddin: A Luminary of Bengali Music

In the realm of Bengali music, one name stands out—Abul Omra Muhammad Fakhruddin. He was a renowned lyricist, celebrated journalist, and a heroic freedom fighter. After independence, in 1972, his patriotic song “O Amar Bangla Ma Tor Akul Kora Ruper Sudhay Hriday Amar Jay Juriey Jay” ignited an enduring light across the soil of Bengal. Later, the song was incorporated into the film “Ek Jhank Balaka”, though unfortunately, that movie never saw the light of day.

The melody was composed by legendary music director Alauddin Ali, and the vocals were rendered by the musical empress Sabina Yasmin. The result was an immortal creation—a timeless masterpiece that still resonates in hearts today with the sweetest strains of patriotism.

Fakhruddin was naturally quiet and humble. He worked away from the limelight, yet his creations have made him immortal and unforgettable. Through his pen, he captured the beauty of Bengal’s six seasons, the colors of nature, and the emotions of its people—crafting artistic expressions that awaken deep love and pride for the homeland in every Bengali heart.

Tragically, on October 24, 2020, the deadly COVID-19 pandemic took him from us. Yet his creations and contributions will forever live in the hearts of Bengalis—through songs of patriotism, the fragrance of Bengal’s soil, and the enchanting, melodious tunes he left behind.

Even today, whenever every Bengali heart sings,
“O Amar Bangla Ma Tor Akul Kora Ruper Sudhay…”
we remember and pay homage to this great lyricist and patriot.

Respectful tribute and silent salute.
