Public Panic Triggered by Display of Dummy Rifle During Rally, 1 Arrested

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Turag Police Station, has arrested a 49-year-old man named Mujahidul Islam Chowdhury for allegedly creating public panic by displaying a dummy rifle.

On Friday afternoon (24 October), police conducted a raid at a house in Sector 12 of Uttara West and apprehended him along with the dummy rifle.

According to police sources, yesterday afternoon, a patrol team from Turag Police Station received a tip-off that a group of people was gathering on a paved road near the Khalpar Police Box under Turag jurisdiction and displaying illegal weapons.

Through this act, they attempted to instill fear among the public and disrupt law and order. When police quickly launched an operation at the scene, the suspects fled upon noticing the officers.

Later, through video footage captured on locals’ mobile phones and subsequent questioning, Mujahidul Islam Chowdhury was identified as the person displaying the weapon during the rally.

In the afternoon, a raid at a house in Sector 12 of Uttara West led to his arrest along with the dummy rifle. A case has been filed against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act on Saturday (25 October).

Sources at Turag Police Station stated that the arrested Mujahidul Islam Chowdhury, in collusion with unidentified individuals, used the dummy rifle to instill fear among the public through mass gathering and attempted to destabilize law and order. Police confirmed that legal action against him is underway.
