FKA Twigs cared more about being recognised at the Grammys earlier in her career.
The British singer-songwriter, real name Tahliah Barnett, told The Hollywood Reporter that she no longer measures her success by streaming figures or awards.
When asked if the Grammys matter to her, she replied, “When I was younger. But less so now. I have never been in this for awards… I’ve always felt very confident in my cultural impact more than what numbers look like on Spotify or how many trophies I have in my recording studio. I’ve consciously and actively done things so that I can be on the right side of myself as an artist.”
However, she added, “But in the same breath, I have been releasing music for two decades, and it would mean something to be recognised by other musicians and people who care a lot about music.”
The Cellophane singer acknowledged that Grammy voters may find it difficult to categorise her genre-blending music.
“My place isn’t anywhere, to be honest,” she stated. “I will be an artist that always changes styles to the glee and frustration of my fans.”
Twigs was previously nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Music Video in 2020 for Cellophane.
She was also shortlisted for the Mercury Prize this year for her latest album Eusexua, which honours the best British or Irish album of the past 12 months, but lost out to Sam Fender earlier this month.
