Mufti Muhibbullah Admits Staging His Own Abduction

Mufti Muhibbullah Miaji (60), the khatib of the T&T Colony Jame Mosque in Tongi, Gazipur, has confessed that he orchestrated his own abduction. He made the admission on Sunday night during a Facebook Live session hosted by Ataur Rahman Bikrampuri.

The live broadcast began around midnight, during which Mufti Muhibbullah’s daughter joined by phone. She stated that her elder brother had informed her their father had confessed to fabricating the entire incident on his own accord.

Later, at around 2:30 a.m., Bikrampuri went live again and spoke with the police. Officers told him that he could enter the mosque if he wished, but only with one follower accompanying him. Bikrampuri declined the condition. Shortly after, he received a phone call from Mufti Muhibbullah’s younger son, who is also an Islamic scholar.

During that call, Mufti Muhibbullah himself came on the line and said: “I did everything myself. I went to Panchagarh on my own, pretended to be abducted, and made the incident go viral. Please, do not make any further fuss about it.”

On social media, he is widely known as Maulana Mufti Muhibbullah Madani.

Previously, he had claimed that on the morning of 22 October, around 7 a.m., he was abducted from in front of the Shilmul Axis Link CNG Filling and Conversion Centre in Tongi and taken away in an ambulance. The following day, he claimed to have been found in Panchagarh with his hands and feet tied.

He had also alleged that, in the days leading up to the incident, he had received multiple anonymous threat letters and that he was subjected to a day of torture after the alleged abduction.

With his recent confession, it is now evident that the entire episode had been staged.
