Indian Arrested with Gold Worth ₹2.45 Crore at Petrapole

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel foiled an attempted gold smuggling at the Petrapole India-Bangladesh international checkpoint (ICP) in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, seizing gold valued at approximately ₹2.45 crore.

On Monday (27 October), acting on specific intelligence, a BSF vehicle inspection team stopped an empty truck entering India from Benapole, Bangladesh.

A thorough search of the truck led to the discovery of two concealed green packets containing eight pieces of gold—six bars and two biscuits.

The total weight of the recovered gold was 1,974.540 grams, with an estimated market value of ₹2,45,79,739. One Indian smuggler was arrested at the scene.

During interrogation, the detainee admitted that he had agreed to transport the consignment across the border motivated by financial gain.

The arrested individual, along with the seized gold and the truck, has been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
