At least 40 people were victims of extrajudicial killings during the tenure of the interim government, according to a report published by the human rights organization Odhikar. These killings occurred between August 9, 2024, and September 30, 2025. Among them, 11 deaths took place in the three months from July to September.
The report was prepared based on investigations conducted by human rights organizations associated with Odhikar and information published in various media outlets.
The organization released the report on Thursday (October 30).
According to the report, out of the 40 extrajudicial killings, 19 people were shot dead, 14 were tortured to death, and 7 were killed in mob beatings. Among the 11 deaths between July and September, security forces were allegedly involved — 7 were killed by joint forces, 3 by police, and 1 by army personnel.
In addition, during this period, 3 people were tortured to death, 6 were shot, and 2 were killed by mob violence. At least 27 people died in jail custody during the same period, bringing the total number of custodial deaths during the 13 months of the interim government to 88.
The Odhikar report also stated that India’s Border Security Force (BSF) killed at least 35 Bangladeshis between August 2024 and September 2025, including 10 between July and September.
Furthermore, since May of the current year, India has pushed back at least 2,333 Bangladeshis through various border points, according to the report.
In political violence, 46 people were killed between July and September, bringing the total number of political violence-related deaths during the interim government (from August 2024 to September 2025) to 281.
According to Odhikar’s data, 687 women and girls were victims of rape during the same period, of which 188 incidents occurred between July and September.
Additionally, 153 people were beaten to death during the tenure of the interim government, 45 of which occurred between July and September 2025, the report stated.
