Jamaat-e-Islami’s Naib-e-Ameer, Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, has claimed that the activities of the interim government have once again reflected its allegiance to a particular political party. He stated that backtracking on giving the July Charter a legal basis would mean abandoning the government’s own reform agenda.
Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher made these remarks on Saturday (1 November) while addressing a gathering in Cumilla.
He said that the Chief Adviser’s decision to announce an election roadmap while in London, reportedly under pressure from a certain political party, and the subsequent reversal of an earlier decision by the council, are clear examples of partiality. According to him, these actions have seriously undermined the neutrality of the interim government.
Taher further stated that the new situation created by the BNP over the implementation of the July Charter is entirely undesirable. Creating such political tension ahead of the national election, he added, poses an obstacle to the electoral process.
The Jamaat leader also expressed hope that the Chief Adviser would not bow down to any “malign” forces and would remain firm in his commitment to provide the July Charter with a legal foundation.
