In Gopalganj, Rajbari, a 26-kilogram pangas fish was caught in a net by a fisherman in the Padma River. The fish was sold at 67,600 Taka at the Daulatdia fish market through auction. Early Sunday morning (2 November), the fish was caught in Sonai Haldar’s net in the Kalabagan area of Gopalganj.
It is reported that the fisherman, Sonai Haldar, is a resident of Dhawapara Ghat in Rajbari Sadar Upazila. He went fishing in the river on Saturday evening (1 November), and early Sunday morning, while pulling his net in Kalabagan, he caught the large pangas fish.
The fish was brought to Daulatdia fish market for sale. Upon weighing, it was found to be 26 kilograms. In the auction, the fish was sold at 2,600 Taka per kilogram. Shahjahan Sheikh, a fish market trader from Ferrighat’s Shakil Sohan Fish Market, purchased it for 67,600 Taka.
Shahjahan Sheikh said, “Today at the market, there was an auction for a large pangas fish. I bought it for 67,600 Taka. I will try to sell it at a small profit and am attempting sales across the country via phone.”
Rajbari District Fisheries Officer Mahbub Ul Haq stated, “Gopalganj, at the confluence of Padma and Jamuna, is known for large fish. Padma fish is very tasty, which is why its price is higher.”
