Bangladesh Faces a Critical Moment: CEC

Bangladesh is currently standing at a critical juncture. The country’s path toward democracy will depend on the upcoming election, said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin.

He made the remarks on Monday (3 November) during the final training program for Ansar-VDP members and the security drill for polling stations in the national election.

He stated that Ansar members will play a huge role in the election. In terms of numbers, it is the largest force. Simply following conventional methods will not suffice; efforts beyond routine procedures are required.

The CEC added that the country’s progress toward democracy depends on the next election. He constantly thinks about what kind of Bangladesh will be left for the future. He has taken this responsibility not as a job but as a challenge. In such a critical situation, conventional approaches alone will not work.

He emphasized that a fair election is impossible without the cooperation of political parties. About 1 million people will be involved in the electoral process. Additionally, arrangements have been made for jailed citizens and expatriates to vote through an app.

The CEC said that on 16 November, the postal ballot app will be launched. Those on electoral duty will vote via postal ballots, which will be delivered directly to their home addresses.

To raise awareness, he advised people to inform those they are in contact with not to share anything on social media without verification. It has become a habit for people to believe what they see immediately.

A M M Nasir Uddin also mentioned that a cell has been set up to prevent AI misuse. People can contact this cell to verify the truthfulness of any incident.
