BNP Leader Shamsuzzaman Dudu Denied Party Nomination

The BNP has announced its candidates for 237 constituencies ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. However, several influential leaders have been left out of the list, including the party’s Vice Chairman, Shamsuzzaman Dudu. His exclusion has sparked widespread discussion and speculation within the party.

Shamsuzzaman Dudu, who has long played a significant role in the BNP’s central politics, was widely expected by his supporters to secure the nomination. He sought nomination from the Chuadanga-1 constituency, but the BNP ultimately chose Md. Sharifuzzaman as its candidate from that seat.

Following a controversial remark made by Dudu on August 5, he faced criticism within the party and was later cautioned by the BNP leadership. Despite this, his supporters did not expect him to be denied the nomination.

Dudu was first elected as a Member of Parliament from Chuadanga-1 in February 1996 during the Sixth National Election under the BNP’s banner. He was re-elected from the same constituency in the Seventh National Election held in June of the same year.

While studying at Dhaka University, he served as the Central President of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (BNP’s student wing) in 1985 and 1986. Later, he became the General Secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal and served as BNP’s Agriculture Affairs Secretary. He also worked for many years as an Adviser to the BNP Chairperson.

Currently, Shamsuzzaman Dudu serves as a Vice Chairman of the BNP.
