Three Muggers Flee, Dropping Their Weapon as Woman Fights Back

In Shreepur upazila of Magura, three muggers held a female NGO worker at gunpoint and snatched her gold chain and money. The incident took place on Wednesday (19 November) around 7:30 pm on the road between Kodla and Amalsar in Amalsar Union.

According to local sources, the female staff member of BRAC’s Tikerbila branch was travelling by motorcycle from Shreepur’s Langolbandh Bazar to Amalsar when the muggers blocked her path at Kodla. They attempted to snatch her gold chain and bag. At that moment, she engaged in a scuffle with the muggers. Hearing her screams, nearby residents rushed forward, prompting the attackers to flee.

The victim stated that the three muggers tried to take her bag and jewellery after finding her alone on a deserted road. In self-defence, she punched one of them. She said she believed she might die anyway, so she fought back to save herself. During the struggle, a pistol slipped from one mugger’s hand and fell beside the road. As she shouted for help, locals approached and the muggers escaped. Residents later rescued her.

She further stated that the muggers fled with her gold chain and bag, which contained 15–16 thousand taka. Afterwards, locals informed the police about the weapon left behind.

Officer-in-Charge Idris Ali of Shreepur Police Station said police inspected the scene and seized the weapon. Whether it is real or fake is being tested. A drive is underway to arrest those involved.
