Police in Ishwarganj, Mymensingh, have arrested two drug traffickers with a total of 350 yaba tablets during a special operation.
The arrested individuals are Md Shamim Mia (45), president of Ward No. 6 Jubo League and member of the Ishwarganj municipal Jubo League, and Sohel Ahmad, also known as Suhel Ahmad (41), son of Towakkel Ali from Jalalnagar village, Beanibazar, Sylhet.
Police said that on Wednesday night around 2:30 am, based on secret intelligence, the duo was caught while buying and selling yaba near a bridge under construction in Bogaputa village, Sohagi Union. The operation was conducted by a team of police including SI Rashed Mosharraf, ASI Md Mosharaf Hossain and ASI Kanchan Mia. Several other drug traffickers fled the scene during the raid.
A body search of the Jubo League leader led to the recovery of 290 yaba tablets from the lower part of his lungi, while 60 tablets were found in Sohel’s trouser pocket. In total, 350 yaba tablets were seized.
OC of Ishwarganj Police Station, Md Obaidur Rahman, said, “Based on secret intelligence of yaba trafficking, a special operation was conducted, and two traffickers were arrested with 350 yaba tablets. Shamim was also shown arrest under the Anti-Terrorism Act.”
The arrested individuals have been handed over to the court under a drug case.
