Husband Arrested for Killing Seven-Month Pregnant Wife over Suspicion

A seven-month pregnant woman, Kakoli Begum (22), has been brutally killed by her husband, Zahirul Islam, in the Hajimchar upazila of Chandpur.

The incident occurred on Sunday (23 November) afternoon in the Rarhi Kandi area of Ward No. 9 under Nilkamal Union. Immediately after the murder, police arrested the husband, Zahirul Islam (30).

According to police and local sources, following a family dispute, Zahirul took his pregnant wife to a paddy field, tied her hands and feet, and killed her. Upon receiving information from locals, Sub-Inspector Kabir of the Ishanbala Baheerchar Police Outpost went to the spot, recovered the body, and arrested Zahirul.

After his arrest, Zahirul confessed in a video interview that he committed the murder due to suspicion that the unborn child was not his and over allegations of his wife’s supposed illicit relationship.

Upon being informed, Nilkamal Union Chairman Monir Shikdar alerted the police. Later, officers from Hajimchar Police Station visited the scene.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shah Alam of Hajimchar Police Station said they rushed to the spot immediately after being notified. The accused husband has been arrested, and senior officials of Chandpur district police have also inspected the location.

Chandpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Abdur Raqib stated that the victim’s body is being sent for post-mortem. Initial findings suggest the husband was involved in the murder. He has been arrested, and further legal action will follow upon investigation.
