Complete Overhaul in BPL Planning: Updated Fixtures and Full Line-Up Announced

After weeks of anticipation and disrupted planning, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has finally delivered the full and final outline for BPL 12. The announcement includes all key details: schedule adjustments, match venues, player draft timing and the official team roster. The confirmation has brought a sense of relief to franchises, broadcasters, commercial partners and loyal fans who had been awaiting clear direction for the tournament.

Over 500 foreign players registered for the competition, reflecting its increasing global appeal. Following the initial screening process, a refined list of 250 overseas cricketers has been created, ensuring a diverse yet competitive pool for team selection. Alongside them, 158 Bangladeshi cricketers have been included in the final domestic list. All of these names will feature in the player draft scheduled for 30 November at 3pm.

The cricket board initially intended to start the tournament on 19 December and end it on 16 January. However, due to calendar conflicts, logistical reshuffling and considerations regarding ground availability, the BCB opted for a revised timeframe. The new starting date is 26 December, with the tournament culminating on 23 January. Franchises have welcomed the shift, as it allows for better preparation and smoother coordination with international commitments.

An elaborate opening ceremony has been scheduled for 24 December. Two days later, Sylhet will host the first match of the tournament at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The Sylhet phase will be followed by matches in Chattogram, a venue known for delivering thrilling high-scoring contests and passionate crowds. The final stretch of the competition will take place in Dhaka, where the decisive fixtures—including the eliminator, qualifiers and the final—will be held.

The team line-up has also witnessed an important development. The BCB had previously approved a five-team structure for this year’s tournament. However, Noakhali Express has been added as the sixth franchise, making the contest broader and increasing the competitive variance. The six confirmed teams for BPL 12 are: Rangpur Riders, Dhaka Capitals, Sylhet Titans, Chattogram Royals, Rajshahi Warriors and Noakhali Express.

The strategic selection of three host cities aims to maximise nationwide cricket engagement. Sylhet’s scenic stadium, Chattogram’s crowd-driven atmosphere and Dhaka’s central cricketing significance together bring regional diversity and heightened anticipation to the event.

Overall, the unveiling of the revised plan has re-energised the cricketing landscape of Bangladesh. Stakeholders now have a clear direction, and the tournament is poised to stage a compelling mixture of local and international talent. Experts predict fierce competition this year, especially with the expanded player pool and the arrival of a new franchise.
