Two Light Aircraft Collide Over Sydney, One Pilot Killed

Two light aircraft collided mid-air near Sydney, Australia, resulting in one aircraft crashing and its pilot being killed. The information was confirmed by Australian police, according to AFP.

New South Wales Police said the pilot’s body was found in the wreckage in bushland near the airport at Wedderburn, southwest of Sydney. They were informed that two small aircraft had collided mid-air, after which one crashed nearby.

The Canberra Times reported that an immediate investigative team was formed following the incident. Investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) will collect evidence from the site and probe the cause of the collision. They will map the scene, examine the debris and damage, and collect necessary parts for further analysis.

The cause of the accident, which occurred on Sunday morning, is still unknown. According to the Australian Associated Press, one pilot died at the scene, while the other aircraft managed to land safely with its pilot unharmed.

In a statement, the ATSB said one of the aircraft involved in the collision landed safely, but the other crashed into the ground, killing the pilot. The bureau has urged the public to avoid the area during investigation.
