Son sentenced to death for murdering father in Tangail

A court in Sakhipur of Tangail has sentenced a man to death for murdering his father. He has also been fined Tk 20,000. The verdict was delivered on Sunday (30 November) afternoon by Hafizur Rahman, Judge of the Senior and District Sessions Court.

The condemned convict, Waheduzzaman, is the son of Abdus Samad from Dori Para West neighbourhood of Sakhipur.

According to court sources, on 25 February last year, following a family dispute, Waheduzzaman killed his father Abdus Samad at their home. On the night of the incident, he attacked his father with a ramda and other sharp weapons and fled the scene afterwards. Later, the victim’s brother, Abdur Rashid, filed a murder case at Sakhipur Police Station.

Shafiqul Islam Ripon, Public Prosecutor of the Tangail court, stated that all evidence and witness accounts were presented after the accused was arrested. The verdict upholds the rule of law in the murder case.
