A writ petition has been filed seeking suspension of all activities related to the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election. On Wednesday (4 December), Advocate Yarul Islam, Secretary General of Bangladesh Congress, submitted the writ.
The writ states that the ongoing preparation and activities for the election conflict with rules, laws, and the protection of citizens’ voting rights. Therefore, judicial intervention is necessary to suspend all activities and ensure a transparent and fair electoral environment.
Documents and evidence related to the election have been placed before the court. The court is currently examining the preliminary acceptability of the writ and may fix a date for hearing soon.
Advocate Yarul Islam told journalists that a fully transparent and fair election is essential to safeguard people’s voting rights. Any procedural error or irregularity may pose a threat to the democratic framework.
According to court sources, the Election Commission and other relevant authorities have been included as intervenors. The court will make a decision after the hearing of all parties.
Political observers believe this writ may create uncertainty in the electoral process. However, increased judicial oversight may enhance transparency.
The Election Commission has yet to comment on the writ. Officials have stated that the process will be followed as directed by the court.
Although political parties are preparing for the polls, the writ has created some uncertainty among candidates. Analysts say the court’s decision will influence the course of the election process.
