The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into allegations against former president Abdul Hamid over causing losses of Tk 240 million to the state under the guise of decoration and beautification works in the Nikunja-1 area, as well as allegations of acquiring illegal assets.

ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed the matter to the media on Sunday (7 December).

He said the commission does not initiate inquiries based on a person’s identity, but focuses solely on the objective merit of the allegations.

Abdul Hamid owns a three-storey duplex house on plot No. 6 of Lake Drive Road in the upscale Nikunja area of the capital. After completing his tenure as president, he moved into the house with his family in April 2023.

Allegations have been raised that the construction of walkways on both sides of the road, aesthetic decks, hanging bridges, and modern lamp posts along the canal caused losses of several crores of taka to the state.
