IPL Auction 2026: De Kock’s Surprise Entry Shakes Franchises

The IPL 2026 auction is set to be an extraordinary event, with Quinton de Kock’s inclusion as a major surprise. The BCCI has finalised a total of 350 players for the auction, after consulting extensively with franchise owners. The auction will take place on 16 December at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, starting at 1 PM local time.

Originally, the BCCI had shared a preliminary list of 1,355 players with franchises to seek their preferences. Following this process, 35 additional players were added, including the unexpected addition of De Kock.

The 33-year-old South African left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman has recently retired from international cricket. Despite this, he remains a highly valuable asset, having scored a century against India in the third ODI at Visakhapatnam. De Kock will participate in the auction under the third slot for wicketkeeper-batsmen, with a base price of INR 1 crore—a 50% decrease from the 2 crore he commanded in the previous mega auction. He was released by Kolkata Knight Riders last season after failing to perform to expectations.

Other notable international players included in the auction list are Travin Mathew, Binura Fernando, Kusal Perera, Dunith Wellalage, George Linde, Conor Esterhuizen, Byanda Majola, Miles Hammond, Dan Lategan, and Akim August, ensuring that franchises have a broad selection of talent from around the world.

The BCCI has outlined a structured auction process. It will commence with capped players in separate categories—batsmen, all-rounders, wicketkeeper-batsmen, fast bowlers, and spinners—before moving on to uncapped players.

The list of new Indian talents is equally promising, featuring names such as Sadek Hussain, Vishnu Solanki, Sabir Khan, Brijesh Sharma, Kanishk Chauhan, Aaron George, Jikku Bright, Shrihari Nair, Madhav Bajaj, Shrivatsa Acharya, Yashraj Punja, Sahil Parakh, Roshan Waghsare, Yash Dichalkar, Ayaz Khan, Dhrumil Matkar, Naman Pushpak, Parikshit Valsangkar, Purav Agarwal, Rishabh Chauhan, Sagar Solanki, Ijaz Sawariya, and Aman Shekhawat.

With a mix of seasoned internationals and promising domestic talent, the IPL 2026 auction promises a spectacle filled with surprises, high stakes, and thrilling competition as teams gear up for the new season.
