A man has been left critically injured after being stabbed by his own son following a domestic dispute in Bogura town. The incident occurred in the Malgram Chaparpara area of the city at around 5 pm on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the local community and raising renewed concerns over the growing incidence of family-related violence.
The victim, identified as Jahidul Islam, aged 45, sustained serious injuries after being attacked with a knife by his son, Akash. Following the assault, neighbours and local residents rushed to the scene after hearing cries for help. Jahidul was quickly rescued and transported to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, where he is currently receiving treatment. Medical sources have confirmed that his condition remains critical, although doctors are providing all necessary care.
According to local residents, the attack stemmed from an ongoing family dispute that escalated into violence. During the altercation, Akash allegedly stabbed his father in the abdomen and thigh, causing severe bleeding and immediate distress. Witnesses stated that the sudden nature of the assault left family members and neighbours deeply shaken.
Inspector Md Kamruzzaman, in-charge of the Stadium Police Outpost, confirmed the incident and said police officers had visited the scene shortly after it was reported. He also confirmed that the accused fled the scene following the attack and remains at large.
Police have begun efforts to trace and apprehend the suspect, speaking with local residents and collecting information that may lead to his arrest. Law enforcement officials said they are treating the matter with urgency and have stepped up patrols in the area. Measures have also been taken to ensure the safety of other family members, as authorities remain alert to any further escalation.
The incident has caused widespread concern among residents of Malgram Chaparpara, many of whom described the event as deeply distressing. Locals have noted that while family disagreements are not uncommon, such extreme acts of violence reflect a troubling trend within society. Several residents expressed hope that police would swiftly arrest the accused and ensure justice for the victim.
Eyewitnesses recalled hearing loud screams during the attack, prompting neighbours to intervene and assist in getting Jahidul to hospital as quickly as possible. Community members believe the incident serves as a grim warning about unresolved domestic tensions and the need for early intervention and awareness.
As Jahidul Islam continues to receive treatment, police efforts to detain the accused are ongoing.
