Detectives from the Bogura District Detective Branch (DB) have arrested four leaders of the local Volunteer League, including its district president and former union council chairman Sazedur Rahman Shahin, during coordinated raids across coastal districts. The suspects were apprehended late on Monday, 28 September, from various locations in Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station areas.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Bogura District Volunteer League President and former Kharna Union Parishad Chairman Sazedur Rahman Shahin (52), Senior Vice-President Syed Abu Zafar Siddique Ripon (60), City Volunteer League Organizational Secretary Sabbir Hossain Nirzhon, alias Bhadu (29), and party activist Ferdous Hossain (26).
According to police sources, the men had been evading law enforcement authorities for a considerable period following multiple criminal charges filed against them in Bogura. To avoid tracking, the suspects frequently relocated across the coastal tourist hubs of Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar. Acting on precise intelligence and tracking data, a specialized DB team pinpointed their hideouts and executed simultaneous raids, taking all four men into custody around 10:00 pm on Monday.
Official records reveal an extensive history of pending cases against the suspects. Police confirmed that district president Sazedur Rahman Shahin faces more than 15 criminal cases involving violent offences and civil disruption. Sabbir Hossain Nirzhon is named in over 10 active cases, whilst Ferdous Hossain faces at least two separate charges filed across local police stations in Bogura.
Confirming the successful operation, Officer-in-Charge Iqbal Bahar of the Bogura District DB stated that the suspects had been hiding to evade arrest. Law enforcement officers are currently processing the detainees for transfer back to Bogura. Detectives are reviewing all pending charges and active warrants to ensure appropriate legal proceedings and formal court submissions are completed.
