Country’s Security Fully Under Control, Says Advisor

Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Interior Advisor of Bangladesh, has assured that the country’s current law and order situation is fully under control, with no cause for concern. His remarks came on Wednesday afternoon during a ceremony at the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) headquarters in Chashara, Narayanganj, where six mini pickup vans were handed over to the District Police and Industrial Police to support law enforcement operations. During the event, he spoke briefly to journalists and expressed confidence in the nation’s security environment.

On questions relating to local political developments, he noted that Mohammad Masuduzzaman, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s nominee for Narayanganj-5, recently withdrew from the upcoming election. In response, the Interior Advisor emphasised that decisions regarding participation in elections are personal matters. He added that while security is a crucial concern, all attendees were present safely at the event, and journalists could investigate the reasons behind an individual candidate’s withdrawal if required.

Addressing queries about the suspension of visa services at the Indian Embassy and the summoning of the Bangladeshi Ambassador to India, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury clarified that the matter was not unusual. He explained that the Bangladeshi side had recently summoned the Indian Ambassador, and such reciprocal summoning is a standard practice in diplomatic affairs.

Opening his remarks, the Interior Advisor paid tribute to the martyrs and valiant freedom fighters of the 1971 Liberation War. He also remembered those who were martyred or injured during the July Revolution, noting that the courageous sacrifices of students and young citizens had been instrumental to the movement’s success. He mentioned that Sharif Osman Hadi, the convenor of the Inquilab platform, is currently receiving medical treatment in Singapore. Chowdhury acknowledged his bravery and significant contributions to the nation and wished him a speedy recovery.

The Interior Advisor highlighted the vital role of Industrial Police and District Police in ensuring safety within industrial areas, safeguarding workers, and maintaining a peaceful working environment. He praised BKMEA’s initiative in donating six vehicles, stating that secure and stable industrial zones require close collaboration between administration and factory owners.

The event was attended by BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, Chief Additional IGP of Industrial Police Jasim Uddin, DIG of Dhaka Range Rezaul Karim Mallick, District Commissioner Mohammad Raihan Kabir, and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Munshi.

As the Interior Advisor departed, student organisations presented a memorandum urging the arrest of those responsible for the attempted murder of Osman Hadi, the recovery of looted arms, and six other demands. He assured the student groups that their appeals would be addressed with due consideration.
