In a decisive anti-counterfeiting operation, the Rapid Action Battalion-6 (RAB-6) has apprehended a 25-year-old man, Abu Hanif, in Keshabpur, Jashore, for possession of counterfeit currency and an array of equipment used to produce fake notes. The arrest occurred on Monday (22 December) in the Magurkhali Bazar area following a well-coordinated raid by the RAB.
According to sources from RAB-6, a specialised team from the Satkhira Camp (CPC-1) acted on a tip-off and conducted the operation. Abu Hanif was detained under suspicious circumstances, and a subsequent search of his belongings led to the recovery of counterfeit notes valued at 81,800 Taka. Alongside the currency, various implements designed for producing fake banknotes were also seized.
Abu Hanif, a resident of Kandarpur village in Keshabpur Upazila and the son of Surat Ali Molla, reportedly admitted during preliminary questioning to his involvement in the production and distribution of counterfeit currency. Authorities have launched an in-depth investigation to identify other individuals associated with this illicit operation.
RAB officials emphasised that counterfeit currency represents a serious threat to the national economy, undermining financial stability and public trust. They assured that intelligence-driven monitoring and targeted enforcement actions will continue to combat such criminal activities. Legal proceedings against Abu Hanif are currently underway, and he is to be formally handed over to the local police station shortly.
Local residents have welcomed the arrest, expressing relief that a potentially widespread fraud network has been disrupted. Community members stressed the importance of continued operations to prevent ordinary citizens from falling victim to counterfeit currency circulation.
