China Eases Visa Process for Bangladeshis

The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka has announced a significant simplification in the short-term visa application process for Bangladeshi citizens, making travel to China faster, more convenient, and more transparent. On Tuesday, 23 December, the embassy declared that applicants for short-term visas will no longer be required to submit their fingerprints, a step previously mandatory for all visa applications.

This new measure aims to streamline the visa procedure and facilitate smoother travel for Bangladeshi nationals. According to embassy officials, the exemption from fingerprint submission applies to all short-term visas valid for stays in China of up to 180 days. The policy will remain in effect until 31 December 2026.

However, the fingerprint requirement remains in place for long-term or specialised visas. These include visas for study, work, or residence, such as D, J1, Q1, S1, X1, and Z visas, as well as residence permits. Applicants for these categories must continue to provide biometric information.

The embassy emphasised that this initiative is designed to improve convenience and reduce processing time for travellers, particularly benefiting tourists and business visitors. Citizens seeking further details on visa applications, required documentation, and updates are encouraged to contact the Chinese Visa Application Centre in Dhaka directly.

The table below summarises the key details of the updated rules and applicable visa types:

Visa Type Maximum Duration Fingerprint Requirement Notes
Short-term (all types) Up to 180 days Exempt until 31 December 2026 Applicable for general tourism and business travel
D, J1, Q1, S1, X1, Z Any duration Mandatory For long-term residence, work, or study

Embassy officials highlighted that the revised procedure will enable applicants to receive their visas more quickly, making time-sensitive travel arrangements significantly easier. This is expected to be particularly advantageous for tourists and business travellers who require expedited processing.

Applicants are advised to maintain regular communication with the visa application centre to ensure they are informed of any updates or additional documentation requirements. This new approach is anticipated to enhance overall travel efficiency from Bangladesh to China, fostering stronger bilateral ties in trade, education, and tourism.

With the implementation of this simplified visa process, travelling to China has become more accessible, swift, and convenient for Bangladeshi citizens, further promoting cultural, educational, and commercial exchanges between the two nations.
