Bangladesh’s Most Searched Topics According to Google

As 2025 draws to a close, Google’s annual report Year in Search 2025 offers a compelling snapshot of Bangladesh’s rapidly evolving social, cultural and technological landscape. More than a simple list of popular queries, the report reflects how curiosity, priorities and daily habits of Bangladeshi internet users have shifted over the past year. Analysts describe it as a digital chronicle of a nation in transition—more informed, more connected and increasingly confident in its own cultural identity.

According to Google’s analysis, entertainment and local culture dominated search behaviour throughout 2025. Bangladeshi users showed a clear preference for home-grown films, television dramas and OTT content over Hollywood productions. This marked a significant turning point for Dhallywood, which enjoyed a strong revival during the year. The renewed momentum of the local film industry was mirrored directly in search trends, signalling growing public confidence in domestic creative output.

At the top of individual search queries stood Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan. His film Borbad emerged as the most searched and widely discussed movie of the year. Alongside it, Afran Nisho’s action-packed Tandob and the rural-themed film Jongli sustained audience interest and critical discussion. On television and digital platforms, the immensely popular series Bachelor Point retained its loyal following, while the new drama Bohemian Ghora sparked fresh debate among younger viewers, particularly on social media.

Beyond entertainment, 2025 proved to be a landmark year for technology adoption in Bangladesh. Google’s search data indicates that nearly 96 per cent of the country’s internet users engaged with artificial intelligence tools in their daily activities. Searches related to AI platforms such as Gemini and DeepSeek featured prominently among students and professionals alike, underscoring how advanced technology has moved firmly into the mainstream.

Sport remained another major driver of online interest, with cricket leading the way. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the Asia Cup generated intense national excitement, especially during matches against India and Pakistan, when “live score” searches reportedly reached record levels. Domestically, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) maintained a strong presence in search rankings, while football clubs Fortis FC and Bashundhara Kings also attracted notable attention.

Political developments significantly influenced search behaviour towards the end of the year. On 30 December, the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia triggered a surge in Google searches. International media described the event as the end of a political era, a sentiment clearly reflected in public online engagement.

Lifestyle trends revealed changing consumer behaviour. Search data suggests Bangladesh’s e-commerce sector experienced growth exceeding 30 per cent in 2025, with electronics and fashion items leading online purchases. Meanwhile, health-conscious food trends such as “hot honey”, “matcha” and “mushroom coffee” gained popularity, pointing to evolving dietary preferences.

Travel and education-related searches also remained strong. London, Tokyo and Kuala Lumpur topped the list of most searched international destinations, while practical queries such as “What is my IP address?” and “How to apply for a German study visa” highlighted a growing emphasis on preparation and global mobility.
