Shreepur Police Face Brutal Drug Syndicate Attack

Shreepur, Gazipur – In a violent escalation of local criminal activity, police officers came under armed attack during an anti-drug operation in Shreepur late on Wednesday night. Three officers sustained injuries, and two suspects were initially apprehended before being forcibly freed by assailants. Authorities have so far arrested ten individuals in connection with the incident. Law enforcement officials described the attack as evidence of the increasing boldness and aggression of local drug syndicates.

The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. near Maona, adjacent to Peer Ali College. Officers conducting the raid faced a sudden assault from armed local criminals, who used firearms, knives, iron rods, sticks, and bricks to obstruct the operation. Amid the chaos, two police pickup vans were damaged, and two suspects—Mohammad Rajib (33) and Jahangir Alam (26)—were freed after initially being detained.

The injured police officers were promptly taken to Shreepur Upazila Health Complex for treatment. The table below summarises their condition:

Name Rank Nature of Injury Current Status
Arup Kumar Biswas Sub-Inspector (SI) Moderate injuries Stable after initial treatment
Muhammad Masud Rana Sub-Inspector (SI) Head and back injuries Under treatment at Shreepur Health Complex
Aziz Constable Arm and leg injuries Stable after treatment

Police sources stated that the operation began at approximately 10:50 p.m., targeting suspected drug dealers in the Maona area. During the raid, Lucky Akter (28), Jahangir Alam (26), and Mohammad Rajib (33) were apprehended with a cache of yaba tablets. In retaliation, the gang and their accomplices launched the violent attack, forcing police officers to retreat. During the escape, three motorcycles were abandoned and subsequently recovered by law enforcement.

Shreepur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Nasir Ahmed affirmed, “No leniency will be shown towards these criminals. The operation to apprehend all involved parties is ongoing. Jahangir Alam has a prior criminal record.”

In response to this surge in violence, local police have intensified anti-drug operations. Measures include increased patrolling, heightened vigilance at checkpoints, and covert surveillance in the area, aiming to suppress criminal activity and bring perpetrators to justice. Authorities have urged the community to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure public safety.
