HR, the employee claimed, insisted on “valid documentation” to support the sick leave. When this information was relayed back to the manager, the situation escalated unexpectedly. The manager allegedly asked the employee to share their live location via WhatsApp.
The screenshots reveal that the manager initially requested medical documents by the end of the day. This was followed by the demand for real-time location data. When questioned about the necessity of such information, the manager reportedly replied that the request was made on HR’s instructions and that tracking employees’ live locations fell within company policy.
The revelation triggered an outpouring of reactions online. Many users strongly advised the employee not to comply, describing the demand as an outright violation of privacy. Critics questioned the logic of requiring documentation for something as commonplace as a headache, while others condemned what they saw as an alarming trend of micro-management and surveillance.
One user commented sarcastically, “Do we now need photographic evidence of suffering to earn a day’s rest?” Another wrote, “Absolutely not. You were hired to work, not to surrender your personal whereabouts.”
Some responses went further, urging the employee to ask for the request formally via official email and to copy HR, arguing that such documentation would expose the questionable nature of the demand.
