NCIP Worker Targeted, Motorcycle Stolen During Attack

In Gazipur, an NCIP worker narrowly escaped an attempted shooting, while assailants made off with his motorcycle. The incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 12:30 pm in the Jogitola area of the city.

The targeted worker has been identified as Habib Chowdhury, 25, a resident of Mugerkhal (71 Goli), Bashan Thana, Gazipur city. His ancestral home is in Brahmanbaug, Sonargaon Upazila, Narayanganj.

According to police and eyewitness reports, Habib had listed his old motorcycle for sale. Around midday, two individuals approached him, expressing interest in purchasing the vehicle. They arranged to meet in Jogitola for a test ride. During the meeting, one of the men started the motorcycle under the pretext of testing it, while the other suddenly fired two shots at Habib. Fortunately, the bullets did not hit him; they passed dangerously close to his ear. After the attack, both individuals fled the scene with Habib’s motorcycle.

Speaking about the incident, Habib Chowdhury said, “They met me under the guise of buying the motorcycle. While one was testing it, the other aimed at me and fired. Luckily, I was not hit. The bullet passed close to my ear.”

Following the attack, NCIP central leader Ali Nas addressed the matter via a Facebook Live broadcast, saying, “Habib Chowdhury is a July activist and a courageous NCIP leader. He was specifically targeted in a premeditated attack. Just as Shaheed Osman Hadi was assassinated, a similar attempt was made on him today. This is extremely alarming. Those involved in the July uprising are not safe; the state is failing to provide security. We strongly condemn this attack and demand that those responsible be brought to justice within 12 hours.”

Taherul Haque Chauhan, Additional Commissioner of Crime and Operations at Gazipur Metropolitan Police, told local media, “The incident stemmed from a motorcycle sale. Habib was extremely fortunate not to be hit. We have already launched operations to apprehend the perpetrators and hope to bring them to justice swiftly.”
