Two people died in a road accident

Tragedy struck on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj area on Saturday evening (24 January) when a head-on collision between an auto-van and a tractor claimed the lives of two individuals. The accident occurred at the Fasitala-Kalahati stretch, causing shock and grief in the local community.

According to the Gobindaganj Highway Police, the auto-van, loaded with potatoes, was travelling from Gobindaganj towards Fasitala. As it approached the Kalahati section of the road, a tractor carrying oil was coming from the opposite direction. The two vehicles collided head-on, leaving the auto-van’s owner, Munshur Ali, and his helper, Rana Mia, dead at the scene.

Both victims were residents of Shibganj in neighbouring Bogura District. Their bodies were handed over to their grieving family members later on Saturday night. The sudden nature of the accident has left local residents and commuters in shock, prompting calls for improved road safety measures along this busy highway.

The officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Highway Police, Mozammel Hossain, reported that the driver of the tractor fled the scene immediately after the collision. Authorities have launched an investigation to locate the driver and determine the circumstances that led to the tragic crash.

Highway accidents in Bangladesh have been on the rise, often caused by overloading, reckless driving, and poor road conditions. Local law enforcement urges drivers and passengers to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations, particularly on heavily trafficked routes like the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway.
