BNP-Jamaat Clash Injures Fifteen

A violent clash erupted between supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami in the Lalmonirhat-1 constituency, covering the areas of Hatibandha and Patgram, during election campaigning. At least fifteen individuals from both sides sustained injuries in the confrontation, which took place on Sunday, 25 January, in the Kasaitari area of Ward 2, Tongbanga Union.

The identities of the injured parties have not yet been confirmed. Eyewitnesses reported that the altercation escalated quickly, involving stone-throwing and physical scuffles, leaving several motorcycles damaged in the melee. The situation became tense enough to warrant immediate intervention from senior administrative officials.

District Commissioner and Returning Officer HM Rakib Haider, along with Police Superintendent Md. Asaduzzaman, promptly arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control. The law enforcement response was reinforced by units from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), who took a firm stance to prevent further violence.

Police Superintendent Md. Asaduzzaman confirmed the confrontation, stating, “There was a clash between BNP and Jamaat supporters. Stones were thrown, several individuals on both sides were injured, and some motorcycles were vandalised. We are present at the scene and legal action will be taken against those involved.”
