Madhumati Bank PLC has taken a further step towards consolidating its institutional capacity in Shariah-compliant finance by organising a full-day professional training workshop on Islamic banking. Titled “Fundamentals, Operations and Investment Methods of Islamic Banking”, the workshop was held on Saturday at the bank’s head office in Gulshan, Dhaka. The initiative was designed to enhance internal expertise, ensure effective implementation of regulatory guidelines, and strengthen the overall quality, consistency and credibility of the bank’s Islamic banking services.
The programme brought together senior management, divisional heads and branch managers, reflecting the bank’s intention to embed Islamic banking not merely as a product line, but as an integrated, principle-driven operational framework. By ensuring participation across multiple organisational levels, Madhumati Bank sought to foster a shared understanding of Shariah principles and promote policy coherence throughout its Islamic banking operations.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Madhumati Bank, Md Shafiul Azam, who attended as the chief guest. In his address, he underscored the growing relevance of Islamic banking within Bangladesh’s financial sector. He noted that the core principles of justice, risk-sharing and close linkage with the real economy have positioned Islamic banking as a sustainable and ethical alternative to conventional finance. He further reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to expanding its range of Shariah-compliant products and services while maintaining full compliance with regulatory requirements and strengthening customer confidence.
Special guests at the event included Additional Managing Director Shahnewaz Chowdhury and Deputy Managing Director and Chief Business Officer Arab Fazlur Rahman. Senior officials from the risk management, human resources and Islamic banking divisions also contributed actively to the discussions. The presence of management committee members, executive officers and branch managers transformed the workshop into an inclusive platform for structured knowledge exchange and strategic alignment.
The training sessions covered the theoretical foundations of Islamic banking, day-to-day operational frameworks and Shariah-compliant investment models. Particular emphasis was placed on profit-and-loss sharing mechanisms, asset-backed financing structures, risk management practices and Shariah governance frameworks. Through practical examples and case studies, participants were guided on how to apply these principles effectively at branch level, ensuring both operational integrity and customer-centric service delivery.
According to bank officials, such capacity-building initiatives form an integral part of Madhumati Bank’s long-term human resource development strategy. By investing in transparency, ethical standards and professional competence, the bank aims to further reinforce its position as a responsible and capable player in Bangladesh’s Islamic banking landscape.
