In Narsingdi’s Belabo Upazila, police recovered the body of a missing poultry trader from a local pond three days after he disappeared. The recovery took place on Thursday night around 9:00 pm in the Bir Baghber area of Bajnab Union.
The deceased has been identified as Azimul Qader Bhuiya, aged 45, the son of the late Mannan Bhuiya of Bir Baghber village. He was a prominent local figure, having served as the former General Secretary of the Union Chhatra League and the former Joint General Secretary of the Upazila Chhatra League.
According to police and family members, Azimul Qader was last seen on Tuesday evening at his poultry farm. He reportedly left the premises around 8:00 pm and did not return. Despite extensive searches by his family and neighbours, no trace of him was found until the following day, when a missing person report was filed at Belabo Police Station.
On Thursday evening, several locals spotted a body floating in a pond and immediately informed the family. Police from Belabo Thana arrived at the scene around 9:00 pm, retrieved the body, and sent it to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue after completing an official post-mortem preliminary report.
Family members revealed that approximately two weeks prior to his disappearance, Azimul Qader had hired two workers for his poultry farm, one of whom is known by the nickname Rubel. Since Azimul Qader went missing, these two employees have also disappeared, along with the entire stock of chickens from the farm. The family suspects a possible connection between the disappearance of the workers and Azimul Qader’s death.
Belabo Police Officer-in-Charge SM Aman Ullah confirmed the body’s recovery. He noted the presence of a black mark under the ear and injuries on the feet. “The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of his death,” he said.
