Norway Royal Family Faces Courtroom Scrutiny

The Norwegian royal family has come under intense public scrutiny following the commencement of a high-profile rape trial involving Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son, 29-year-old Marius Borg Høiby. The trial, which began in the capital city of Oslo, has rapidly become one of the most closely watched legal proceedings in Norway in recent years, attracting widespread media coverage both domestically and internationally.

The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between 2018 and 2024, including one case in which a woman was sexually assaulted while asleep. Several additional women are expected to testify, but their identities are being withheld for security and privacy reasons.

Marius Borg Høiby has long been a public figure in Norway, having openly acknowledged struggles with drug use and mental health challenges in the past.
