LPG Prices to Be Announced Monday

Consumers across Bangladesh will learn on Monday whether the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will rise or fall for February, as the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) prepares to announce revised rates for the coming month. The decision, which directly affects household cooking costs as well as small commercial users, will be unveiled on 2 February during a scheduled press briefing.

According to an official notification issued by BERC on Sunday, the new prices will be determined on the basis of the Saudi Contract Price (CP) for February 2026, as declared by Saudi Aramco. The Saudi CP is widely regarded as the benchmark for LPG pricing in Bangladesh, particularly for the private sector, as the country relies heavily on imported LPG to meet domestic demand.

BERC stated that its formal directive on the adjustment of consumer-level prices for privately marketed LPG will be announced at 3:00 pm on Monday. The briefing will take place at the hearing room of the commission’s Dhaka office, located within the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). Officials from the energy regulator are expected to outline the revised tariff structure and explain the key factors influencing the latest adjustment.

LPG prices in Bangladesh are reviewed and revised on a monthly basis to reflect movements in international markets, exchange rate fluctuations, shipping costs and other import-related expenses. As a result, consumers often experience month-to-month changes in cylinder prices, particularly during periods of volatility in global energy markets.

In January, BERC fixed the retail price of a 12-kilogram LPG cylinder at Tk 1,306. This marked an increase from December, when the same cylinder was priced at Tk 1,253. The January adjustment reflected changes in the Saudi CP as well as associated import and distribution costs. Whether February will bring relief to consumers or impose additional financial pressure will depend largely on the latest international pricing trends.

LPG has become an increasingly important fuel in Bangladesh, especially in urban and semi-urban areas where access to piped natural gas is limited. Millions of households rely on LPG for daily cooking, while restaurants, roadside eateries and small businesses also depend heavily on cylinder supplies. Any price adjustment therefore has a broad impact on the cost of living and on operating expenses in the informal and small-scale commercial sectors.

Below is a summary of recent LPG prices at the consumer level for a standard 12-kilogram cylinder:

Month Price per 12 kg Cylinder (Tk)
December 2025 1,253
January 2026 1,306
February 2026 To be announced

Energy analysts note that while monthly price revisions enhance transparency and align domestic prices with global trends, they also create uncertainty for consumers. Many households will be watching Monday’s announcement closely, hoping for a reduction that could ease pressure on household budgets amid rising living costs.
