“After bidding farewell to Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester City face each other in the final.”

Manchester City booked their place in the Carabao Cup final for the tenth time after a commanding aggregate victory over Newcastle United in the semi-finals. Following a strong performance in the first leg, City secured a 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, completing a 5-1 aggregate triumph.

This marks Manchester City’s return to the Carabao Cup final for the first time since 2021. In the other semi-final, Arsenal had already secured their place by overcoming Chelsea, setting up a tantalising final between two of England’s footballing heavyweights.

City Dominate from Kick-Off

The hosts established control early in the match at the Etihad. In the seventh minute, Omer Marmoush opened the scoring, netting in the absence of Erling Haaland, who was rested for this fixture. City maintained relentless pressure throughout the first half, creating numerous chances, though Newcastle goalkeeper James Trafford made several crucial saves, denying attempts from Joe Willock and Anthony Gordon.

Marmoush doubled his tally in the 29th minute with a powerful header. Just minutes later, Tijjani Reijnders added a third goal, leaving City firmly in command at 3-0 before the break.

Newcastle Fight Back but Fall Short

Newcastle showed resilience in the second half, attempting to mount a comeback. Anthony Elanga scored a spectacular strike in the 62nd minute, giving the visitors a lifeline. However, City’s defence held firm, and no further significant goals were conceded, ensuring a comfortable overall victory.

The result confirms Manchester City’s place in the Carabao Cup final, where they will face Arsenal at London’s historic Wembley Stadium on 22 March. Fans can expect an intense showdown as both sides look to claim England’s first domestic trophy of the season.
