Architect and Songstress Bushra Rejoins Stamford Faculty

In a harmonious blending of academic rigour and creative flair, the renowned architect, researcher, and vocalist Bushra Shehriyar has officially rejoined the Department of Architecture at Stamford University Bangladesh. Her return to the faculty marks a significant acquisition for the institution, as she brings with her a wealth of international research experience and a public profile that bridges the gap between science and the arts.

A Journey of Academic Excellence

Bushra’s relationship with Stamford University is not a new one. She previously served as a lecturer within the same department from 2015 to 2017. During her initial tenure, she was lauded for her contributions to undergraduate teaching, student mentoring, and the strategic development of the architecture curriculum.

Seeking to deepen her expertise in urban mechanics, she later moved to India to attend the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee. Awarded a full scholarship for her outstanding academic record, she completed her Master’s degree in Urban and Rural Planning. Since 2019, she has been immersed in doctoral research at the same institute, focusing on a critical issue for her homeland: Community-Based Flood Resilience in Dhaka.

Currently in the final stages of her PhD, Bushra is preparing to submit her thesis. Her return to the classroom is expected to provide architecture students with a unique perspective on sustainable urbanism and disaster mitigation—topics of vital importance as Bangladesh navigates the challenges of climate change.

Beyond the drafting board and the lecture hall, Bushra remains a household name in the Bangladeshi music industry. Her discography, which includes patriotic and contemporary hits such as “Utsaber Bangladesh” and “Tomay Jodi”, has earned her a dedicated following. Her ability to balance a demanding career in academia with a successful stint in the performing arts serves as an inspiration to many young professionals.
