A shocking and violent attack claimed the life of a lawyer’s assistant in Gaibandha, raising serious concerns about local security. Last night, at approximately 8:00 pm on 13 February, Amitabh Chandra Sujan, 40, an assistant at the District Judge’s Court, was murdered at his residence in Khamar Ballamjhar, Ballamjhar Union, Gaibandha Sadar Upazila.
According to family members and local sources, Sujan was in his yard when several masked assailants forcibly broke into his home. The attackers struck him repeatedly with a machete, targeting his head and body. Despite the family’s efforts to rush him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Sujan, who lived in the locality with his parents, wife, and two children, had reportedly been involved in a land dispute with a local resident, Naresh Chandra, for the past three to four years. The family alleges that Naresh had been issuing threats in recent months, suggesting that this killing may have been a premeditated act linked to the ongoing conflict.
The Officer-in-Charge of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station, Abdullah Al Mamun, confirmed that the police recovered a machete at the scene shortly after receiving the report. Sujan’s body has been sent to the Gaibandha General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Investigators are actively working to determine the exact motive, identify the perpetrators, and apprehend them, with the case currently under formal investigation.
