Seven individuals, including women, were injured in a violent clash in Tarash, Sirajganj, following tensions over local election-related disagreements. The incident occurred on Saturday morning (14 February) around 10:30 am in Gurma village, within Madhainagar Union of the sub-district.
The victims of the attack ranged from a 13-year-old child to adults in their early thirties. They were initially admitted to the Tarash 50-Bed Hospital, and five of the seriously injured were subsequently transferred to Sirajganj Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

According to local residents, the altercation has its roots in election-day disputes. On the morning of the vote, former organisational secretary of the Madhainagar Union BNP, Amin Uddin, instructed certain households to cast their votes according to his direction. However, the members of these families chose instead to follow the guidance of another BNP leader, Nasir Uddin, and went to vote accordingly.
This defiance reportedly angered Amin Uddin and his followers. On Saturday morning, he and a group of 7–8 associates allegedly went to several homes in Gurma village armed with sticks, assaulting family members. The attack left seven individuals injured, including women.
Amin Uddin has denied involvement in the violent episode. Meanwhile, S. M. Afsar Ali, former president of Tarash Upazila BNP, stated that both parties involved were BNP members. He said, “After learning of the incident, I visited the hospital to ensure proper treatment for the injured. I will bring both sides together in Gurma village to resolve the matter peacefully.”
Tarash police officer-in-charge, Md. Habibur Rahman, confirmed that law enforcement had been dispatched to the scene to control the situation. He added that no formal complaint has yet been filed. “Once an official complaint is received, appropriate legal action will be taken,” he stated.
Residents expressed alarm over the escalation of political tension into violence, particularly during a sensitive election period. They called for local leaders and authorities to mediate swiftly to prevent further incidents, highlighting the impact on families and young children in the village.
