Education State Minister Bobby Hajjaj has announced the initiation of multiple legal cases against Mamunul Haque, the candidate of the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami, over allegations of seizing polling centres and attacking BNP activists during the 13th National Parliamentary elections.
Speaking on Sunday (22 February) while visiting injured party activists at a private hospital in Dhanmondi, Minister Hajjaj stated that Mamunul Haque had directly orchestrated attacks at several polling stations on election day. “More than a hundred party activists were injured during these incidents, and several remain hospitalised,” he said.
The minister added, “Before securing victory in the 12 February election, our party faced numerous challenges and attempts by the opposition to seize polling centres. We will not allow this assault to go unpunished. Every injured activist’s case will be investigated thoroughly, and appropriate legal action will be taken.”

In response, Mamunul Haque dismissed the allegations. He claimed, “They already won despite attempting to harm us, and now they are crying to secure another victory. There was no major conflict with them on polling day. When they approached a centre and tried to attack me, the police intervened. Later, the army arrived and dispersed both sides.”
He further alleged, “Any minor disturbances were managed by the police and army. Anyone injured was hurt due to law enforcement actions. Now, after attempting to manipulate votes through force, they are trying to harass us with cases. They must bear full responsibility.”
The incident has heightened political tensions across the country. Analysts warn that such allegations and counterclaims could exacerbate electoral tensions in the forthcoming political environment.
